Captain Richard Rodriguez is a USCG-licensed Master (100-ton) and approved maritime instructor based in the San Juan Islands, Washington. He is a Partner and Director of Operations at Zenith Maritime Academy, where he oversees 35 instructors at 25 locations across the United States teaching USCG-approved mariner licensing courses. Rodriguez has responded to more than 3,000 vessels in distress, operated 19 commercial assistance towing vessels, and personally trained more than 800 Coast Guard-licensed captains over his career. He is certified by the Washington State Bar Association to teach continuing legal education courses on maritime topics. His gCaptain writing and his blog The Bitter End cover vessel traffic services, AIS technology, rescue towing operations, and practical seamanship in the Pacific Northwest.
