Three port employees have been injured following an accident in the Port of Gdynia, following a collision between the Swedish ferry, Stena Spirit, and an arm of a container loading crane yesterday.
Two of the injured persons have reportedly sustained severe injuries according to a statement from the Baltic Container Terminal.
According to a quote by Jesper Waltersson, Communcations Manager at Stena Line, obtained by Swedish newspaper, The Local, “She rammed the stern into the leg of the container crane that collapsed.”
Considering the height of the Stena Spirit, in relation to the height of the container loading/unloading arms that stretch out over the port, the danger of allision is significant.
The Stena Spirit has since departed Gdynia and the investigation into the matter continues.
The following shows the aftermath of this disaster:
Finnish police are investigating whether a foreign ship was involved in the damage of an undersea power cable connecting Finland and Estonia following a sudden outage on Wednesday, the police said on Thursday.
A Russian cargo ship called Ursa Major sank in the Mediterranean Sea overnight after an explosion ripped through its engine room and two of its crew are still missing, the Russian Foreign Ministry said on Tuesday.
China said on Monday it had provided information and documents for an open investigation into the severing of two Baltic Sea undersea cables, though it and Sweden disagreed over how transparent Beijing had been in the case.
