Coast Guard Responding to Large Barge Fire in Delaware Bay
The U.S. Coast Guard and multiple partner agencies are responding to a barge fire in Delaware Bay on Tuesday after a tug reported that the vessel it was towing had caught fire....
The Scarabeo 5, a 4th-generation semi-submersible drilling rig built in 1990 by Fincantieri for Saipem has caught fire today while drydocked at the Keppel Verolme yard in the Netherlands.
According to a quote from Keppel which was obtained by Offshore Energy Today, one person has been confirmed injured, although Dutch news reports up to three are injured.
“We can confirm that a fire broke out in a welder shop as a result of hot work on board the Scarabeo 5 semi at Keppel Verolme. The fire is under control and we understand there is one person with minor injuries.”
We contacted Keppel Verolme however they were unable to comment, noting that further details will be released next week.
The rig is on contract with Statoil.
