China Claims Taiwanese Smuggling Ring Behind Subsea Cable Sabotage Case
Chinese authorities on Wednesday said two Taiwanese citizens led a smuggling operation involving a Chinese-crewed vessel that damaged subsea cables earlier this year.
Dutch dredging and marine services provider Royal Boskalis Westminster says it is reviewing its position in towage provider Smit Lamnalco.
Boskalis has held a 50% stake in Smit Lamnalco since 1964 with the remaining shares held by The Rezayat Group, which is also reviewing its position, Boskalis said.
“An update of this review will be provided by Boskalis as soon as there is reason to do so,” the company said.
According to Smit Lamnalco’s website, the company owns and operates a diverse 160-vessel fleet consisting of Harbour & Terminal Tugs, as well as DP1 and DP2 Offshore Support Vessels and Crew & Pilot Boats. It also employs 2,500 employees.
