Well not gCaptain, we unfortunately will not be attending, but here is a little more about what Amver has to say about the awards.
Is your company a US flagged shipping company? If so, your vessels likely earned Amver participation awards. In the past Amver hosted an awards ceremony in New York City. While we haven’t hosted an awards ceremony in several years we are proud to announce the return of the US Amver Awards ceremony. This year the awards ceremony will be held at the National Press Club in Washington, DC on May 21, 2009 starting at 5:00 pm.
And in case any of you don’t know:
Amver, sponsored by the United States Coast Guard, is a unique, computer-based, and voluntary global ship reporting system used worldwide by search and rescue authorities to arrange for assistance to persons in distress at sea. With Amver, rescue coordinators can identify participating ships in the area of distress and divert the best-suited ship or ships to respond.
Amver’s mission is to quickly provide search and rescue authorities, on demand, accurate information on the positions and characteristics of vessels near a reported distress.
A week after Aiviq arrived at Tampa Ship LLC in Florida a new set of photos shows the vessel fully repainted in U.S. Coast Guard icebreaker red. The transom at the stern of the ship reveals the vessel’s likely new name: Storis.
The U.S. Coast Guard has closed on the $125m fixed-price deal to acquire and convert icebreaking supply ship Aiviq from Offshore Surface Vessels LLC, part of Edison Chouest Offshore (ECO).
U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Stratton has returned from a 110-day Arctic patrol. Stratton extended U.S. surface vessel presence this summer to above 72°N latitude, waters traditionally reserved for icebreakers and ice-capable ships.
