Some horrifying new video has been released showing last month’s fatal sinking of the tugboat Specialist on the Hudson River underneath the Tappan Zee Bridge.
Three crew members were killed when the 90-foot tugboat, one of three escorting a barge down the river, struck a moored construction barge and sank early on March 12.
The amateur video was filmed by a worker on the scene and released to Newsday this week by an attorney representing one of the captain of the tugboat.
In the 33-second video, you can clearly see the tugboat pinned against the barge before sinking as a group of workers on the barge watch on in horror.
Two of the victim’s bodies were recovered following the accident, but the body of the third victim remained missing. The tugboat with the remains of the third missing victim was raised to the surface on March 24 nearly two weeks after the accident.
The construction barge was in the area as part of the project to build a new span of bridge across the Hudson River adjacent to the existing Tappan Zee Bridge.
