It is basically a tanker that sits out near a production oil rig. The oil comes up through the rig and is sent out (via subsea pipelines) to the FPSO where it is stored until a shuttle tanker can stop by to pick up the oil. <br><br>These are not currently used much in the US since the Gulf Of Mexico has a substantial Subsea infrastructure (underwater pipelines to deliver oil).
