This is typical of cruise lines (and Greek tankers) :-) They don't call them Love Boats for nothing....

Its never the complex that kills you its always the stupid stuff. I am not amazed at the superman attitude of the ships officers. Thank God no one was killed or injuried. While the engineering space is indeed large with systems like a Minimax and a CO2 dump systems I am amazed they took the risks they did take. Plainly just stupid...

Sounds like folk need to be put in hack and re-certified. And I wonder what the after action report really said and I wonder what the nationality of the crew was? Yeah I hate to say it but it does make a difference in many cases.

I also wonder what the "guests" had to say? I am sure they finally were told...after they reached port....I hope....

If it was me... The Chief Engineer would be shot the Safety officer replaced and the Staff Captain demoted to "brooms"....

Idiot because I believe you should barrier cool and let a fire burn itself out WITHOUT putting people in the space?!?

Barrier cool? Engine rooms are large. Even with ventilation secured, there's still plenty of air left. Also plenty of diesel fuel and plenty of other things that will melt or burn in the interim while the fire takes its time dying out.

OR am I an idiot because I think you need to improvise to get the job done like these people clearly did?!?

'Improvise'? I guess you could call it that, in a ten-thousand-monkeys-typing-on-ten-thousand-typewriters sort of way.

Did anyone die?? NO

Proof that G-d protects fools, drunks, and sailors. And the occasional commenter.
