The  route Jeff recorded was from Red Sea — Gulf of Aden — Indian Ocean — Colombo — Malacca Strait — Singapore — South East China Sea — Hong Kong.

If you look closely, there are tapes wrapped around the legs, and head of the tripod to keep it steady, then the rope is just so wind wont knock if it off if tape fails.
