Some wild new video has emerged showing a dramatic collision that occurred earlier this month off the coast of Queensland, Australia.
The incident took place on July 16, 2024 when the LNG-fuel equipped bulk carrier HL Eco, while maneuvering to anchor at Hay Point, reportedly suffered a main engine propulsion issue, resulting in a loss of control and its collision with the anchored YM Serenity.
The incident was captured on video from on board the YM Serenity. The footage shows the bow of the vessel hitting the port side of the HL Eco, causing significant damage including the destruction of an LNG fuel tank and the loss of one of the YM Serenity’s anchors.
Both ships were in ballast at the time of the accident and there appears to be no gas in the HL Eco’s LNG fuel tanks.
The collision was immediately reported to MSQ Hay Point VTS.
