As Typhoon Matmo struck Taiwan on Wednesday, the Belize-flagged product tanker Sheng Chang became stranded on a beach near the port of Kaohsiung, Taiwan. National Airborne Service Corps reports four crewmembers were rescued via helicopter during the storm.
According to the China Post, the insurance on the vessel is expired, and the vessel owner is looking to negotiate the subsequent salvage costs. T
The vessel is carrying about four tons of diesel, but otherwise empty according to local media reports.
