On 26 May, Talleres Navales del Golfo (TNG) shipyard laid the keel of a 31.5 meter, 50 ton bollard pull azimuth stern drive tugboat. This event marked the start of the first Mexico-based vessel construction project in 25 years commissioned by PEMEX.
This new Bureau Veritas-classed vessel is part of a 22 ship order for PEMEX consisting of 19 tugboats and 3 barges at a total cost of 3.4 billion pesos (USD $263 million). First delivery is expected in June 2015.
