Bergen-based NorYards BMV (previously Bergen Group) held a naming ceremony for the 142 meter offshore construction vessel North Sea Atlantic. In conjunction with a long term charter with North Sea Shipping, the newbuild order was placed by Technip in 2012. Following final commissioning and sea trials, the ship will be placed on charter for a minimum of 5 years with a possible 5 year extension and option for purchasing the vessel.
Initially, the vessel will work in the Norwegian North Sea followed by projects in the UK North Sea.
The North Sea Atlantic is DP3-equipped and includes a 550 Te active heave compensted crane and a 2,000 Te underdeck carousel for product storage. She can accommodate an Openable Vertical Lay System for pipelay of flexibles and umbilicals.
Hallvard Klepsvik, CEO of North Sea Shipping, commented on the occasion: “We are confident that this state-of-the-art vessel will fulfil the expectations of Technip and that it will be a valuable asset for their future operations. We thank Technip for the good collaboration during the build phase and look forward to continuing this during operation of the vessel.”
