Finnish engine manufacturer Wärtsilä says they will be providing four 12-cylinder engines aboard a new self-propelled cutter suction dredger that was ordered by Chinese construction firm Jiangsu Haihong Construction Engineering Co. last year.  The 6500 CBM, as it will be called, is currently under construction at the company’s yard in China.

With 5200 kW of cutter power supplied by Wärtsilä 32 engines, this will be one of the world’s largest such vessels once built and was designed by the Design & Research Institute of Ship and Ocean Engineering at Shanghai Jiaotong University.

When delivered, the vessel will operate in the South China Sea and in Middle Eastern waters.
