Maersk Drilling created this video last year as a recruitment and marketing tool.
Normally we’re not super interested in posting promo videos, but I have to admit, it’s a cool video.
Narrating much of the video is Senior Toolpusher Ben Pomford, the most senior member of the Maersk Deliverer’s drilling crew, who for the past 25 years has practiced the trade of offshore drilling on far less sophisticated, and less safe rigs. He speaks with passion about an amazing task that he and his team tackle on a daily basis…
Drilling miles into the earth from a vessel hovering far above is an incredible feat, one that is successfully handled daily through the manipulation of heavy steel, hydraulic machines, basic hydrostatics, and good teamwork.
As the Senior Toolpusher, it’s perhaps easy for him to describe his work in the way he does. Big machinery has certainly made things easier for the rig hands, but for those roughnecks tripping pipe in the middle of the night while a winter storm rages overhead, it’s most definitely difficult work.
Difficult, but totally awesome at the same time.
