This week’s incident photos are of the 89-foot passenger ferry Royal Miss Belmar grounded in the U.S. Virgin Islands on July 4, 2011.
According to a report by the USCG, the Royal Miss Belmar ran aground Monday night on a reef off the northeastern end of Great St. James Island. U.S. Coast Guard crews aboard Boat Forces St. Thomas 25-foot response boat arrived on scene and coordinated the removal of the passengers to good samaritan boaters, and were able to successfully rescue all 98 passengers and 4 crew. Five of the passengers reportedly sustained injuries onboard, including a baby.
No word on why the vessel grounded or the removal and salvage of the vessel.
