The Gerald R. Ford (CVN 78), the lead ship in U.S. Navy’s new class of aircraft carriers, was christened Saturday, November 9 during a ceremony at Newport News Shipbuilding where the ship has been under construction since November 2009. The ceremonial bottle break was performed by the ship’s sponsor and daughter to President Gerald R. Ford, Susan Ford Bales.
