Singapore-based Cyan Renewables has announced its collaboration with Ulstein Design & Solutions BV to create a new generation of floating foundation installation vessels (FFIV) for the offshore wind industry. The partnership aims to address the rising demand for heavy lift installation vessels as the offshore wind sector expands globally.
Torgeir E. Ramstad, Managing Director of Cyan’s FFIV Division, said they selected Ulstein based on its strong track record in heavy lift vessel design, citing their knowledge of market requirements and design expertise.
“Back in time, we predicted a lack of foundation installation vessels and as developments go fast, our R&D focus has been on future-oriented FIV designs to suit the exponential growth of offshore wind,” said Edwin van Leeuwen, Managing Director at Ulstein Design & Solutions BV.
The state-of-the-art FFIVs will feature enough deck space and crane capacity to handle evolving foundation designs, including monopiles and jackets. The vessels will also be developed for low-emissions with a hybrid power system with methanol dual-fuel engines, shore power, and a battery energy storage system.
