Two crewmembers are still missing from an acid-laden tanker that capized on the Rhine River today. This tanker was carrying 2400 tons of sulfuric acid between Ludwigshafen, Germany, and Antwerp, Belgium.
“The hull of the vessel is still intact and the freight has not escaped into the river,” a Rheinland-Pfalz state environment ministry spokesperson told Reuters news agency.
Given the hazardous nature of her cargo, righting this vessel while ensuring full cargo containment is proving to be a serious challenge.
