The Mariners response to the Coast Guards overreaction in licensing safeguards, (we call it oversteering in the business) is for the most part to complain to each other. As Mark Twain said, "Its like the weather, everyone talks about but no one does anything about it." I am an oler Captain who has made the effort to maintain my health only to be put under the microscope by micro managers at the Maratime Center in West Virginia who believe they know more than my expert doctors who have actually seen and tested me. I have not capitulated to the, shall we say pin heads. Help stop this. Contact Senator Charles Grassley of Iowa at The Honorable Charles Grassley United States Senator 135 Heart Senate Office Building Washington, DC 20510-1501 Phone (202) 224-4479 We have to speak as one and act like the government really does work for us. The licensing renewal rudder needs to be put admidship and give things a chance to correct.

CF: I handed out the list of medications and conditions to my crew yesterday and found out every one of the licensed deck officers is subject to additional review.

For the first time I'm in agreement with Michael Moore. Health care in the US is in CRISIS! I work as Captain for a good company and have full health insurance but the premiums on my family's medication, all routine ailments, is a very expensive monthly. Now I have to worry about loosing my job? There's nothing wrong with me or the dozen other guys I know taking medication on the CG's "master list". See how safe we are going to be when the experience of every mariner over the age of 50 is wiped out.
