The Explorer is being towed by K-Sea’s (or should I say Kirby’s) 3,400hp tug, Ross Sea, which made headlines in 2011 when she came in first place at the annual Great North River tugboat race held in New York City.
NASA seems to be coming a regular for the tug and towing industry, having hired recently Weeks Marine to shuttle the Space Shuttle Enterprise to its final home at the Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum on the Hudson River.
