Two vessels collided in the Bosphorus Strait near Pasalimani in the southern Sea of Marmara in Turkey, on Thursday.
The Turkish Directorate General of Coastal Safety confirmed that the ships AYED 1 and BUNUN ACE made contact in what was described as a “scraping manner”.
A statement from the Directorate highlighted the crucial role of their response team: “The maneuver of our Pilot Captain on the ship named BUNUN ACE, which was heading towards the Üsküdar coast, and the maneuver of our Tugboat KURTARMA-5” were instrumental in averting a potentially more serious situation. The quick intervention successfully prevented BUNUN ACE from running aground.
The collision was captured on video by a nearby vessel:
Following the incident, both ships were safely escorted to the Ah?rkap? Anchorage Area with the assistance of tugboats and a pilot.
While the collision resulted in material damage to both vessels, the Directorate confirmed that there were no casualties or marine pollution as a result of the incident.
