A Vietnamese oil tanker is now missing after departing Singapore late last week enroute to Vietnam, sparking fears that the vessel has been pirated.
According to a Dow Jones report, the MT Sunrise 689, owned by Haiphong Fisheries Shipbuilding Joint Stock Co., went missing 40 minutes after it left a Singapore port at 6 p.m. local time on Thursday, October 2, a Vietnamese Maritime Administration official said. The vessel, which was carrying 5,226 metric tons of oil products, was reported missing after it failed to arrive in Vietnam as scheduled on Sunday, the report said.
AIS data from MarineTraffic.com shows last position received from the vessel was on October 2nd in the Singapore Strait.
A search is underway for the missing tanker.
