Norwegian offshore shipbuilder VARD closed out a big week on Friday announcing a third contract for two platform supply vessels from Mermaid Marine Australia.

The announcement follows a previous contract for the construction of two offshore support vessels for an undisclosed buyer announced Wednesday, as well as Letter of Intent announced Tuesday for a large offshore subsea construction vessel for Solstad Offshore.

The two PSVs for Mermaid will be of the VARD 1 08 design and will come equipped for standby, rescue, firefighting and ROV operations. The 4,000 dwt vessels will have a total length of 81.7 meters, a beam of 18 meters and 810 m2 of deck area.

The vessels will be delivered from VARD’s Vard Vung Tau shipyard in Vietnam in 4Q 2015 and 1Q 2016, respectively.

“We are honored to receive these contracts from Mermaid Marine, and proud to see a new client from the Asia Pacific region entrust this important project to our Vietnam shipyard,” said VARD CEO and Executive Director Roy Reite.
