Three people have died and two others were sickened after inhaling toxic gases while working in a confined space of a ship as it sailed off the coast of Malaysia.
The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency says it received a distress call Sunday night from the MV Hi Ram located about 4 nautical miles from Tanjung, Malaysia. Once on scene they found the bodies of three Vietnamese crewmembers laid out on the deck of the ship and two other crewmembers, all Vietnamese, who were ill.
The MMEA says the victims had inhaled toxic gases while working in a confined space of the ship.
All five victims were taken to a local hospital in Malaysia.
The MMEA did not specify what type of cargo the MV Hi Ram was carrying at the time.
