Seaspan Adds Six 15,500 TEU Containerships to Newbuild Orderbook

Seaspan Corporation, a leading owner and operator of containerships, is adding to its newbuild order book with an order for six 15,500 TEU containerships.

The order brings Seaspan’s total of newbuilds on order to 37 newbuild vessels since December 2020. During that time it also acquired an additional two second-hand vessels.

Deliveries of the six ships announced today are scheduled to begin in the second half of 2023 and extend through to mid-year 2024.

Each ship will be scrubber-fitted and include industry-leading emissions reduction technologies. Upon completion, Seaspan said the vessels will enter long-term charters with leading global liner companies.

Hong Kong-based Seaspan Corporation is a wholly owned subsidiary of Atlas Corp. (NYSE: ATCO). As of December 31, 2020, Seaspan’s global fleet consisted of 127 vessels and approximately 1,073,200 TEU. The addition of the 37 newbuilds and two second-hand vessels adds 1,653,200 TEU to its fleet,
