Statoil announced today they have signed a contract with Allseas to utilize the Pioneering Spirit (ex- Pieter Schelte) to install the drilling, processing and living quarter platforms at the Johan Sverdrup field. The Pioneering Spirit is the world’s largest heavy lift vessel with a lifting capacity of 48,000 tons.
The topsides will be assembled onshore and then transferred to the Pioneering Spirit for transport to the field. Once on station, the topsides will be placed upon the installed steel jackets.
Statoil says the largest lift during this installation will be the processing platform of around 26,000 tons.
The drilling platform topsides will be installed in 2018, and the processing and living quarter topsides will follow in 2019.
