Here’s a series of photos showing the placement of the drilling derrick onboard Diamond Offshore Drilling’s new ultra-deepwater drillship, Ocean BlackLion, currently under construction at Hyundai Heavy Industries’ shipyard in Ulsan, South Korea.
The Ocean BlackLion is Diamond’s fourth of four Gusto P10000 drillships featuring dynamic-positioning, dual-activity capability, maximum hook-load capacity of 1,250 tons, two seven-ram blowout preventers, water depth capabilities up to 12,000 feet, and drilling depth capabilities up to 40,000 feet.
The rig is expected to be delivered in 2015 and is available for contract. The first two drillships in the series, Ocean BlackHawk and the Ocean BlackHornet, are expected to commence operations for Anadarko in the US Gulf of Mexico in 2014.
