Genco CEO Says Trump’s China Ship Fees Will Hammer Farmers, Not China
The largest US-based dry bulk shipper said it is prepared to pass on costs to US exporters or position its ships elsewhere if proposed US fees on Chinese ships go into place.
NYK Group, through its subsidiary NYK Bulk & Projects Carriersm, has entered into a charter agreement with Kambara Kisen for a methanol dual-fuel bulk carrier, marking NYK’s first operation of such a vessel.
The vessel, currently under construction in Japan and scheduled for delivery in 2025, will be equipped with a dual-fuel main engine that runs on both methanol and fuel oil. The primary fuels, bio-methanol and e-methanol, will be derived from renewable hydrogen and recovered carbon dioxide to significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The ship will also feature the largest loading capacity of an Ultramax bulker and feature a versatile hull capable of transporting various cargo, including grain and ore.
The NYK Group is focused on decarbonizing its fleet and promoting clean transportation by using low-carbon and decarbonized fuels such as methanol to significantly reduce net emissions throughout the fuel lifecycle.
