NOAA Names Two New Research Ships

The 23,000 DWT multipurpose cargo vessel Reggeborg was successfully launched this week at the Fersus Smit yard in Leer, Germany.
The vessel is the second of a 3-ship series being built for Wagenborg Shipping of the Netherlands. Unlike the first vessel, the Reggeborg features a higher deckhouse helping to create a better line of sight when transporting larger cargoes. The vessels also feature an innovative, ice-strengthened hull design that allows for less resistance irrespective of loading draft.
At nearly 170 meters long by 20 meters wide, the ships are the biggest ship ever to be built at Ferus Smit and the largest in the Wagenborg fleet.
Delivery of the Reggeborg is planned for February 2014.
