A fair bit of upper body strength is required by maritime ship pilots while boarding vessels, especially in inclement weather, or when all of the sudden a pilot ladder falls apart and you need to climb up the ladder using only your hands.
It’s a good thing the pilots on San Francisco Bay are fit.
