Maersk Orders Halt To Man Overboard Drills

Anna MaerskAccording to Danish media, Maersk has ordered a halt to all man overboard (MOB) drills aboard their container ships following news of a fatality aboard the 93,496 GRT ship Anna Maersk. The vessel was reportedly conducting a MOB exercise in the port of Kobe Japan last week when a Filipino seaman lost his life and a Danish officer was badly injured.

“I can confirm that the accident occurred. It’s a very tragic. The relatives have been informed and we have also informed the relevant authorities” Michael Storgaard, press chief of the AP Moller reported to a Danish newspaper.

The injured officer has since been is reported out of danger. The company has sent a psychologist and a representative of the company to Kobe to help the crew and the authorities.

It has been reported, but not confirmed, that the accident occured when the lifeboat falls failed and the boat fell and hit the water.
