Torrential rains and high swells along southwest China’s Jialing river caused a three-story river-dining boat to break free from its moorings last week and collide with another ship before sinking.
According to a Chinese news source, water levels rose over 40 feet in 24 hours after rains poured down in the Chongqing Municipality.
Early reports suggest all 11 people aboard the vessel were safely rescued from the water.
