In light of the ongoing war in Israel, Israeli shipping ZIM has alerted customers about possible service disruptions.
Despite the challenging situation, ZIM continues to operate and accept bookings to and from Israel, with local ports in Ashdod, Haifa, and Eilat functioning as usual.
Meanwhile, ZIM says insurers have imposed an additional war risk insurance premium on all vessels calling Israeli ports. ZIM is obligated to pay this premium in order to maintain service to and from Israel. Consequently, it has announced that it will charge the war risk premium, at cost, on relevant cargo, effective immediately.
“First and foremost, our thoughts are with the victims of the horrific and tragic events taking place in Israel, and we stand in support of our employees, their families, and affected communities,” ZIM said in its customer advisory. “Our top priority is supporting our employees and ensuring their safety and security, while maintaining an unwavering commitment to meet the needs of our customers with an unrelenting focus on strict operational standards.”
Although gCaptain has not independently confirmed the claim, Ryan Petersen, founder and CEO of Flexport, said that ZIM is providing its roll-on/roll-off ships to support the war effort.
“ZIM is fully committed to ensuring consistent and reliable service to and from Israel, while taking all necessary measures to meet all our customers’ needs in these challenging times,” ZIM’s advisory added.
