The Icelandic Coast Guard continued its response Thursday to a fire onboard the Ro/Ro cargo ship Fernanda off the coast of Iceland.
An update Thursday said that the Icelandic Coast Guard vessel Thor arrived on the scene of the MV Fernanda and commenced firefighting operations.
All eleven crewmembers of the ship were airlifted to safety shortly after the fire broke out in the engine room Wednesday afternoon, disabling the vessel.
The update Thursday said that the Thor is now towing the Fernanda towards Iceland. Earlier Thursday, the vessel was boarded by firefighters to ensure the safety of the ship.
The 75-meter MV Fernanda is registered in the Dominican Republic and was built in 1981, according to the Icelandic Coast Guard
