By Kati Pohjanpalo (Bloomberg) Finland and Estonia agreed to boost cooperation in protecting underwater energy infrastructure roughly a year after a ship anchor ripped up a gas pipeline connecting the countries.

The two governments seek to improve the surveillance and resilience of underwater gas and electricity infrastructure in the Gulf of Finland, and improve capacity for repairs, according to a statement on Friday.

The Balticconnector gas pipeline damaged in October 2023 has been repaired, and sabotage hasn’t been ruled out as a cause of the incident. There are also two submarine power cables that connect the countries, Estlink 1 and 2, in addition to data cables.
