On March 25th, the 1952-built Great Lakes freighter MV John G. Munson became the first ship of the 2015 commercial shipping season to depart Duluth Harbor, Minnesota for Lake Superior and the Soo Locks. The video above was produced by Drone Star US and shows the vessel’s departure from the port.
The Duluth Port Authority said previously that while weather may look good in their neck of the woods, there was still significant amount of ice cover on the eastern edge of Lake Superior and that the U.S. Coast Guard cutters Mackinaw and Alder to clear the way.
