According to the U.S. Coast Guard, 36 people were killed and 601 injured last year while riding personal watercraft. Roughly quarter of those incidents involved rented boats.
Only 13 percent of last year’s deaths occurred on boats where the operator had received boating safety training from a course provider that followed USCG-recognized standards.
