Salvatore Molino Named President; Steven Kalil to Become Chief Executive Officer as John B. Caddell II Continues as Chairman
Caddell Dry Dock & Repair Co., Inc. has announced a planned executive leadership transition effective January 1, 2027, marking the next chapter for the longstanding New York Harbor ship repair company while maintaining continuity in its ownership and strategic direction.
Salvatore Molino, currently Executive Vice President, will become President of Caddell Dry Dock & Repair Co., Inc., succeeding Steven Kalil, who will transition to Chief Executive Officer after 36 years as President. William Chapman will continue to serve as Vice President and General Manager, and Ciro Galeno, Jr. will continue to serve as Secretary and Treasurer.
John B. Caddell II will remain Chairman of the Board, continuing his longstanding stewardship of the privately held company and its commitment to investment in its people, facilities and ship repair capabilities:
“Our responsibility is to build a company that is prepared not only for the work in front of us today, but for the opportunities and challenges that will come decades from now. That philosophy has guided our investment in Caddell, our people and our facilities, and it is the same philosophy behind this succession plan.”
“Steve has dedicated decades to building this company and strengthening its position in the maritime industry. Salvatore has demonstrated the leadership and vision needed to carry that work forward. With Steve moving into the CEO role and Salvatore becoming President, we are putting in place a leadership structure designed to protect what Caddell’s has built while positioning the company for its future.”
The succession represents a deliberate evolution of Caddell’s leadership structure following years of investment in the business and long-term planning intended to position Caddell for continued growth while preserving the independence, workforce and operating principles that have defined the company for generations.
Kalil Moves to CEO After 36 Years as President
“After 36 years as President, what I am most proud of is not simply what we have built, but the people who built it,” Kalil said. “Caddell’s reputation comes from generations of skilled men and women who understand this business and take pride in the vessels we repair.”
“The best succession plans preserve that experience while creating room for the next generation of leadership to move the company forward. John’s continued commitment to investing in Caddell gives us that stability. Salvatore understands our operation, our customers and where this industry is headed. I have tremendous confidence in his ability to lead Caddell as President.”
Molino to Assume Presidency
Kalil’s tenure as President has spanned more than three decades of change across the commercial maritime, government vessel and ship repair sectors.
During that period, he has helped guide Caddell’s development in the New York Harbor market while building longstanding relationships with customers, employees and industry partners.
As CEO, Kalil will remain actively involved in Caddell’s strategic direction, business development, major customer and industry relationships, long-term planning and corporate initiatives.
Molino joined Caddell’s executive leadership team as Executive Vice President in 2022 and has worked closely with Caddell and Kalil on operational performance, strategic growth, customer relationships, competitive positioning, facility development and long-term corporate initiatives.
As President, Molino will assume responsibility for Caddell’s day-to-day executive leadership, operations and organizational performance while working with Kalil and the company’s management team to execute its long-term strategy.
“It is an extraordinary privilege to be entrusted with the leadership of a company that has been part of New York Harbor’s maritime community for generations,” Molino said. “Our job now is to build on that foundation. We will continue investing in our workforce, infrastructure and capabilities while finding new ways to serve our commercial and government customers. We intend to grow, but we will do it without losing the craftsmanship, responsiveness and accountability that built Caddell’s reputation in the first place.”
Positioning Caddell for the Next Generation
The leadership transition comes as Caddell continues to evaluate investments aimed at expanding its repair and dry dock capabilities and strengthening its ability to support commercial and government vessels operating in New York Harbor and beyond.
For Molino, continued investment in both infrastructure and skilled trades will be central to maintaining Caddell’s competitiveness.
“Ship repair remains a people-and-infrastructure business,” Molino said. “You need the waterfront assets and equipment to handle the vessel, but ultimately, it is experienced people who deliver the project. Our future depends on investing in both.”
“New York Harbor remains one of the most important maritime gateways in the country, and we believe there is significant opportunity for a shipyard that can combine experience with continued investment and modernization. Our objective is to make sure Caddell is positioned to meet that opportunity for decades to come.”
Effective January 1, 2027, Caddell’s executive leadership structure will be: John B. Caddell — Chairman of the Board
Steven Kalil — Chief Executive Officer
Salvatore Molino — President
William Chapman – Vice President & General Manager
Ciro Galeno, Jr. – Secretary & Treasurer
