He holds the FICS designation from the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers, the ASA (Accredited Senior Appraiser), ABV (Accredited in Business Valuation), and CMS (Certified Machinery & Equipment Specialist) credentials, and has completed advisory transactions totaling more than $500 million and over 5,000 vessel appraisals across his career. Karatzas earned an MBA from Rice University and completed the Owner/President Management Program at Harvard Business School. He is a member of the Baltic Exchange and Chatham House, and his shipping market analysis has been cited by the Wall Street Journal, Financial Times, The Economist, and the New York Times. He is co-author of a chapter in the International Handbook of Shipping Finance.
