Australian marine engineer and videographer Luke Annells is back at it with this new video aboard the MV Pioneer, captured using his “quadcopter” and an HD GoPro camera. This time he is near the Great Barrier Reef on his was Port Mackay (you can watch his first video HERE).
While Luke admits that this hobby of his is “just for fun”, his footage is easily some of the best-ever captured of a vessel underway. He only has one request…. he wants a ‘like’ from GoPro!
Let’s see if we can make that happen.
More videos from Luke can be found on his Youtube page, HERE.

what sort of ship was that.
The MV Pioneer is a BIBO (Bulk-in, Bulk-out/Bag-out) refined sugar vessel owned by Sugar Australia and home ported in Mackay, Queensland, Australia. She is one of only three in her class. They load her with bulk refibed food grade sugar and can off-load either bulk sugar or they can bag it with onboard bagging equipment. She is manned by a crew of 18 Australians. The photographer is one of the Engineering officers.
many thanks, when i was at sea the sugar came in sacks.

awesome footage…..
As the wife of a ship's captain and mother of a boatswain- this is GREAT!
Outstanding video, would have loved to have it aboard my ship. Great job, hope he does more of them.
Another great video from Luke. Can’t wait for v3.
Great shots…but as we all know the best shot of any ship is through the back of a taxi window!
Go-Pro should like this as ships are awesome, and it is awesome.
Great shots. Kudos!!!
Great shots. Great job. Impressive vide. Many thanks to Luke and to gCaptain.
I was wondering about flying so close to those radars… and then he announced he lost the bird when it started acting crazy. Hmmmm…
Yacht captains, like myself, could offer this type of video “postcard” to our owners and guests for their enjoyment. I couldn’t help noticing what appears to be a lot of what appears to be oily(bilge?)discharge on the water surface surrounding the MV Pioneer.
It is actually coral ‘spawn’, very common in the tropical regions on both the east and west coasts of Australia.
Fantastic video. My son had one until his dog took a liking to it. Thanks, good sailing
