World’s Biggest Containership MSC ZOE Christened in Hamburg

Mediterranean Shipping Company celebrated the christening of one of the world’s biggest containerships, MSC Zoe, this weekend in Hamburg, Germany.

The 395.5 meter long ship is the third vessel in MSC’s ‘Oscar class’ behind MSC Oscar and MSC Oliver, which at 19,224 TEU each are the largest containerships in the world by carrying capacity.

MSC Zoe made her way up the Elbe River blasting the Star Wars theme song on Saturday to thousands of spectators who lined the shores to greet the biggest containership in the world on her maiden call at Hamburg.

The ship is named after the daughter of MSC Cruises Executive Chairman Mr. Pierfrancesco Vago and his wife Mrs. Alexa Aponte Vago, who is MSC Group CFO.
