A few weeks ago the Port of Long Beach reported its busiest April on record as dockworkers and terminal operators moved 746,188 twenty-foot equivalent units in April for a 43.6% increase from the same month last year. Simultaneously there is a massive shortage of empty shipping containers not to mention events like the recent Suez Canal blockage and reoccurring Covid-19 cases in one of China’s busiest ports.

It’s a perfect storm for logistics professionals which our friends over at Wendover Productions explain with their usual high level of clarity and insight. We just hope Wendover features multi-decade failures of Short Sea Shipping next so Washington will wake up and find solutions to solve the biggest problem facing our ports.
