Located 207 km north of the Arctic Circle, on the northwest coast of the island of Greenland, Thule Air Base is the US military’s northernmost installation. Thule’s arctic environment includes icebergs in North Star Bay, two islands (Saunders Island and Wolstenholme Island), a polar ice sheet, and Wolstenholme Fjord – the only place on Earth where four active glaciers join together.
It is a challenging place to resupply and the base is too large to supply solely by air. For this tough job the US Air Force turned to Schuyler Line Navigation Company, an American shipping company founded in 1998 by three graduates of SUNY Maritime College.
Schuyler Line Navigation Company is contracted to provide sea lift service for Thule Air Base through September 2023. SLNC will be providing port to port delivery of sustainment and construction equipment for use on base; operations will include loading and offloading and transporting U.S. government and U.S. government sponsored cargo to and from Denmark and Thule Air Base.
