Songa Offshore SE has appointed former Ocean Rig and Transocean executive Mark Bessell to the role of Chief Operating Officer.
Songa Offshore CEO Bjornar Iversen comments, “I have been working closely with the Board of Directors to create what we believe to be the strongest and most dynamic management team in our industry – the appointment of Mark Bessell is entirely aligned with this strategy. Mark is widely recognized as one of our industry’s top performers as such he provides extensive strength and depth to our Management team. Marks solid multi-disciplinary experience and operational knowledge will deliver clear service and performance improvements to our customers & I welcome him to our team.”
Mark Bessell commenced his career in the offshore oilfield at Sedco and remained with Transocean for over 20 years where he held a number of senior positions within Operations, Projects, Technical and HR. More recently he held Senior Vice President positions with Ocean Rig.
“Mark is extremely knowledgeable, highly driven, and quality orientated – exactly what we are looking for in this role. He understands all aspects of this industry and the business and has a solid track record as an effective manager & leader at this level – his appointment is another important step towards the achievement of our goal to build “Songa Offshore -The Midwater Expert”, concludes Iversen.
Bessell will start in his new role on 21 October.
