This week’s ship er, shipyard photo comes to us via Damen Shiprepair Brest, or DSB for short, located on the northwest tip of France.

Formerly known as Sobrena Shiprepair, the shipyard was taken over by Damen Group just three months ago and operates three large graving dry docks, pictured here, with the largest measuring 420 meters by 80 meters making it one of the largest of its kind in Europe.

The yard offers a wide range of services for many vessel types but is particularly well known for it’s expertise in LNG carriers, although VLCC’s and offshore vessels will be an important part of DSB’s business.

On Friday, Damen Group announced that Jos Goris, Managing Director of Damen Shiprepair Götaverken (DSGö) in Sweden, will be taking on the role of managing director of DSB effective mid-July, replacing André Hollander who has managed the yard since switching hands three months ago.

“I’m looking forward to working for DSB, seeing its expertise being brought into practice first-hand and to deliver satisfactory results for our clients,” says Goris.  “We will differentiate ourselves on Safety Culture, Project Management and of course the quality of our work.”

André Hollander will continue his involvement with DSB as General Affairs Officer responsible for DSB’s relations with governmental institutions, maritime organizations, the media and local community representatives, amongst other responsibilities.
