Today’s ship photos come to us via Fairmount Marine, a company which at this point is becoming quite the SPOTD regular due to their large scale and, more importantly, successful ocean towing operations.
These photos came along with Fairmount Marine’s news that their tug, Fairmount Summit, completed the safe delivery of a new rig, the SSV Catarina, offshore Angola after being towed from South Korea.
The SSV Catarina rig is a sixth generation, ultra deepwater semi-submersible built by Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering, designed to drill up to depths of 10,000 meters. The rig has a length of 118 meters and a width of 78 meters.
When hooked-up with the SSV Catarina, the Fairmount Summit sailed via Malacca Strait and Cape of Good Hope towards Angola, where it arrived after covering a distance of over 10,000 miles with an average towing speed of 6.9 knots.
During the voyage, bunker stops were made in Singapore and Mauritius.
