South Korea’s Samsung Heavy Industries says it has won an order from an unidentified European shipowner to construct three arctic shuttle tankers.
Samsung says the order amounts to US $440 million for the three ships.
Samsung has previously won orders to build three ~70,000 DWT arctic shuttle tankers for Russia’s state-owned Sovcomflot on two separate occasions, first back in 2005 and again in July 2014, but according to a report in Tradewinds Sovcomflot has denied connections to the newbuild order announced Tuesday.
The vessels announced today are expected to be delivered in the first half of 2017, according to The Korea Times.
