Jan 31, 2026 (Bloomberg) –Operations at Russia’s Murmansk Bulk Terminal and Commercial Seaport resumed late on Saturday after being temporarily suspended earlier in the day, Interfax reported.
The facilities were forced to stop work due to power disruptions in Murmansk, a city north of the Arctic Circle, and the nearby city of Severomorsk, where Russia’s Northern Fleet has its main base.
The bulk terminal said the temporary shutdown was a deliberate move to reduce electricity consumption and free up capacity for residents and other areas currently without power.
The seaport also halted operations to prevent damage to equipment and ease pressure on the power grid, according to its press service, cited by Interfax.
The Murmansk facility, a key Arctic gateway, handles a wide range of dry bulk and general cargo, including coal, iron ore and other metals. It’s one of the largest ports in Russia’s northwest.

Murmansk, Severomorsk and surrounding areas, were hit by a lengthy power outage this month after aging infrastructure failed amid severe winter weather.
Electrical power was cut off on Jan. 23 and restored Jan. 27 after five power transmission towers collapsed near Murmansk.
