The Arnold Maersk, no doubt named after Arnold Schwarzenegger because it’s so friggen HUGE, passes underneath the Bayonne Bridge.
This ship is 352 meters (1155 feet) in length with a total deadweight tonnage of 109,000 tons. She was built in 2003 by Odense Staalskibsvaerft A/S and has a total capacity of 6,600 TEU.
To put this vessel in perspective however, the Arnold Maersk is relatively small when compared to the giant containership Emma Maersk which can carry over 15,000 containers, and she’ll be smaller still when lined up next to the new class of Triple-E ships which are due to be launched in 2013.
Furthermore, in case you thought I was serious, the Arnold Maersk was not actually named after Schwarzenegger, but rather Arnold Peter Møller – founder of the A.P. Moller – Maersk Group.
